Yellow Sapphire with Blueberry Inclusions - .94ct

And now for something fun and different! I found these funky beryllium-doped sapphires in Tucson and was intrigued by their little polka dots. After I started cutting I noticed they were more blue and looked like blueberries 🫐

Now this is where fun gem optics comes into play. Depending on how you orient the stone, you can get certain inclusions to bounce around and show up - I definitely want to play with this more and have some ideas….

“Those blue dots look like titanium that has leeched out from rutile inclusions. That happens when the stone becomes hot enough for elements (like beryllium) to diffuse through the stone and is a great potential indicator for beryllium diffusion”
